Myofascial Release (MFR) is a highly effective, manual therapy technique that focuses on the entire fascial system. Using gentle, sustained pressure to the fascia (connective tissue) MFR releases the “straightjacket” effect of tissue that compresses vital systems and restricts motion, thereby helping to relieve pain and restore motion. MFR has been effectively used to treat many symptoms including, but not limited to, muscular pain and tightness, scar release, TMJ dysfunctions, migraines, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and a myriad of women’s health symptoms.
Myofascial Release also adds an important dimension to women’s health and Pelvic Floor Syndromes by addressing pelvic dysfunction. Over time, the pelvic floor muscles and other muscles within the pelvis and abdomen often tighten in reaction to pain, resulting in a weakening of these structures and limiting their ability to function properly. Left untreated, this pain cycle increases in intensity and duration and begins to affect the patient’s overall health and well being. Internal manual therapy, utilizing MFR techniques and movement therapy, provides a non-surgical alternative that not only treats the symptoms but uncovers the cause of the symptoms as well By treating each patient individually and identifying the structural imbalances within the fascia, long term changes can occur, allowing the patient live without the painful symptoms.
“I had been diagnosed with chronic pelvic pain. My symptoms included a burning pain in the penis and a tight knot-like feeling at the base of my testicles. In addition I had been noticing less sensation and slight erectile difficulties. On my first appointment Melissa explained everything very thoroughly and made me feel very comfortable and at ease given the area being worked on. Since working with her my symptoms have been greatly reduced with significantly less flare-ups and the tightness has since dissipated. I have noticed that her work has also helped to enhance the sensation in that area and improve the quality and strength of my erections. So all is going very good these days and I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone experiencing the same type symptoms. I would urge the guys out there with these symptoms to overcome their apprehension and seek out help....Melissa has definitely made an improvement in the quality of life for me with her specialized type work. I greatly appreciate it. ”
“I went from doctor to doctor trying to figure out why I had continual pain after my hysterectomy. Even everyday activities like going up the stairs and walking were becoming painful. I was prescribed muscle relaxers, Lyrica and even drugs for depression. After some research on the subject, I heard about pelvic floor myofascial release and that is when I called Melissa Russell.
After working with Melissa, I am almost symptom free! I am now exercising daily and even doing some strength training. I have learned to listen to my body and relax the pelvic floor muscles thus ending the vicious cycle of pain that so plagued me for 4 years. I now see Melissa once a quarter to stay on track. ”
